The Bitch Is Back!

Helloooooo again faithful readers (is there more than one of you? I don't know, I like to think so).
As you may have noticed, I have been MIA for quite a while. Life happened, and the blog was put on the backburner for a short(ish) time as I got my head together. But I'm back and ready to rock again!

Over the next few weeks I'll be reviewing some of my purchases of the past few months (yeah... life happened but goshdarnit if that's going to stop me buying makeup). Now, because I had decided to put a hold on the blog, I didn't do my usual thing of taking photographs of packaging, fresh products etc, so the items I review will not be brand-spanking-sparkly-new and perfect. But on the positive side, the fact that they have been used a few times before the review means I'll be able to give a more honest, in depth look since I have done more than just a quick swatch before posting that shit online.

I may also do a little flashback look at some of the great items I got in the last two Bellaboxes, which were full of new and exciting products.

Also I've developed a new appreciation (and a little skill) in regards to nail art, so expect to see a lot more nail polish reviews, nail art tutorials and more.

I might not post with the same frequency as previously, since life is still happening, but there are breaks in the clouds now, and I'm going to jump on the opportunity as much as I can to get some blogging done.

So thanks for sticking around, and keep those pretty peepers peeled for more of Madam Monstrous.

Bellabox February 2013

February's Bellabox had a great theme: "Red Carpet". I was very excited about this, hoping for some more colour products and some glitz and glam. And I got it!

Stila Lip Enamel Luxe Gloss

Today I'll be taking a look at Stila's Lip Enamel Luxe Gloss, in the shade "Infused With Happiness". Now what with the extreme heat here in Western Australia I've been avoiding lipglosses recently as I find they can be too sticky and in the heat I just don't want that on my face, but I have heard so many good things about Stila's glosses that I had to give this one a go.

Garnier Prize Winnings

Today I got my fantastic Garnier Prize Pack courtesy of Priceline Australia!

I was thrilled about this, I am not usually one to enter contests, but since starting this blog I thought it would be a good thing to start doing, if only to be in the running to win some more goodies to blog about! So this was my first contest win, very exciting.

My parcel arrived this morning, in a lovely big cardboard box, which contained a tough-bag, which contained bubble wrap, which contained a lovely canvas bag, which contained my goodies!

The Russian-Doll nature of the packaging made the whole experience that much more exciting.

My winnings included:

Garnier Body Intensive 7 Days Gel Lotion
This hydrating gel lotion instantly absorbs and provides long lasting hydration for up to 7 days* (*after2dailyapplicationsfor4weeksconsumertestof53subjectsover5weeks). What I can tell you personally is that it is smooth, light and quickly absorbs. It has a very fresh, clean smell, and does feel very hydrating. It helped ease some of the roughness of my skin and left no residual sticky or heavy feeling on the skin.

Garnier Body Intensive 7 Days Conditioning Lotion
This is a lovely creamy lotion that smells absolutely gorgeous. It is a brightening Cocoa Butter lotion and although it is a little thicker than the gel lotion it still absorbs very quickly. This one is great for more 'troublesome' dry areas such as the elbows and hands, as it is a little more hydrating and hard-working than the gel lotion.

Garnier Ultralift Day
An anti-wrinkle firming day cream, this product boasts the ability to reduce even deep wrinkles and firm the skin. It has been enhanced with "naturally sourced Pro-retinol with visible and proven effectiveness". It even has a little wrinkle-ruler so you can see the difference after "just 28 days!". Now, I don't have wrinkles (fat is a great wrinkle-filler), but I am definitely interested in the 'firming' quality of this cream so Imma give it a try anyhow.

Garnier Ultralift Night
Now, this one has pretty much exactly the same description as the Ultralift Day cream, but in addition it promises to "regenerate" the skin. Some kind of Time Lord technology I suspect.

Garnier Dark Spot Treatment
This is an "Intensive Renewal Serum" which promises to reduce sun spots, age spots, and acne marks. It claims to smooth and even skinton and 'reactivate' brightness. Interesting. I'm quite keen to try this one and see if it has any effect on my uneven pigmentation. It is suitable for all skin types and complexions, and contains 4% Glycolic Acid as well as vitamin Cg.

Garnier BB Cream Eye Roll-On in Light
This under-eye BB cream corrects dark circles and puffiness, reduces signs of fatigue (yes please), smooths fine lines, brightens eyes and hydrates. It is lovely and smooth, and doesn't take a lot of effort to blend in. Due to the lightweight texture it really lifts the undereye area and feels very fresh. Lovely.

Garnier BB Cream in Light
This is a daily all-in-one BB cream, with SPF15. It promises to even complexion, correct blemishes, boost healthy glow, and provide 24 hour hydration. It also contains a derivative of Vitamin C for it's anti-oxidant properties, and "mineral pigments to naturally unify your skin".

Garnier BB Cream Anti Ageing in Medium
Pretty much the same shebang as above, but, you know, darker. Here's a comparison of the two BB Cream shades:

The Medium shade is a little thicker in consistency, and as you can see it is a little dark for me, so I passed this one on to my lovely step-mother.

So, thems my goodies! I am very happy to have received such a nice box of skincare stuffs. Between this and the Bellabox I am going to be silky smooth for a very long time.

News And Rumours

Life is getting a little crazy for me at the moment, and that fact, along with my current 'no-buy' status and the wheezing death-rattle of my bank account means that reviews may be a little few and far between for the next few weeks. But, I didn't want to let the blogging slide, so today I present a sort of News and Rumours post about all the makeup gossip I have accumulated over the last week.

First of all, I learnt that Bellabox is now stocking Lime Crime Lipsticks.

Now, Lime Crime is a controversial brand, accused of repackaging and marking up a lot of their formulas and products. Here's a blog post with a little background. I am a little weary of purchasing from a brand with such a mixed reputation, but for those of you who do like Lime Crime, it is nice to see a new stockist in Australia.

Also on the Bellabox front, they have revealed that the theme of February's box will be 'Red Carpet'.

This excites me. I am hoping for some more glitz and glam, perhaps a lipstick, a perfume sample, maybe a few less skincare products and more of a focus on cosmetics and haircare. I'm intrigued.

Now some news from Kmart. A week or so ago Kmarts across Australia had a massive sale on their cosmetics, with huge markdowns across all of their brands. It has since been revealed that they are having a revamp of their cosmetics selection, and as well as introducing some Kmart owned makeup brands, they will also be stocking ELF!

Woop! This is pretty cool news for us ELF fans, as hopefully if the brand picks up steam over here we might see the prices drop and start to even out with the US prices.

I also was lucky enough to win a $125 Garnier Prize Pack courtesy of Priceline Australia. I entered a Facebook competition on a whim and I won all of these lovely goodies!

They haven't arrived as yet, but once they do I'll be doing an unboxing, and reviewing the items as I try them out. Exciting stuff!

And finally, on a more personal note, I have been getting out of the house a lot more. I've had a few trips to the grocery store, a couple of lovely walks around our local wildlife park, and a few fairly intense doctors appointments. I've got a few more appointments coming up over the next few weeks, which means life is a little stressful for me at the moment. I did consider putting the blog on hiatus, but I think it is important for me to keep it going, have a little fun and stick with it. So stick around!

Stila Nail Polish: City Lights

It's been a while since I did a Nail Art post. My nails have been pretty janky lately; different lengths, brittle and generally not so cool and groovy. But but but I recently got a nice selection of goods including some Stila Nail Polish and I just had to try it out.

Laura Mercier Lip Glacé

Today I got my grubby little mitts on a Laura Mercier Lip Glacé Mini in the shade Babydoll. This is my first ever Laura Mercier product, and I finally feel I am beginning to throw off my drugstore-makeup shackles and am branching out into higher end products. It feels good. It feels fancy.

Bellabox January 2013: Product Review

I've had a wonderful weekend sampling all of the great products I got in this month's Bellabox. I am so super moisturised right now you guys.

Here's a more detailed look at the products I received, and how they worked for me.

1) Model Co. Fat Lash Volumising Mascara

This is a great little mascara! As any long time readers may know, since my discovery of Covergirl Clump Crusher it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to mascara, but I was really surprised with how much I liked this one.

The wand is tapered towards the middle, then flares out with a bulb-style at the end. This feature allows you to reach those little lashes at the corners of your eyes, and also makes it easier to apply mascara to the lower lashes.

The formula is nice, not too heavy so there weren't any pesky clumps, and the mascara lifts and lengthens very nicely. I'm very happy to add this product to my arsenal!

Bellabox January 2013: First Impressions

Woot! I received my very first Bellabox today! This post will be my 'First Impressions' of the box and it's contents, and my next post will be a more in-depth review of the individual items. I got 7 little goodies so I need to take the weekend to try them all out!

So, here in all it's glory, is what my friendly neighbourhood postie handed me today:

Upon opening you find a nice little leaflet explaining the theme of the box. January's theme is "New Year, Small Changes". On the reverse of the card is a rundown of the contents of the box, including their recommended retail price and where you can purchase the full sized products.

Adventures at the Grocery Store

Adventure Agoraphobe strikes again!

Today I received an awesome labret spike, and was having a good ol' look at myself in the mirror, admiring my new face bling, when my husband suggested that I go with him to the shops to show it off. Now normally I would have automatically declined, but today, feeling confident and rockin' the spike, I felt like maybe I could do it.

So off we went in the car, and before I knew it I was wandering around looking at the groceries. This was my first trip into a supermarket in around 2 years. 2 YEARS. But I did it! We picked up some bits and bobs, and I even restrained myself from going into the cosmetics section!

Very proud of myself, and I felt I should share my good news. Bonus pic of my 'going out' face, complete with labret spike:

Rimmel London Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick

Part of my most recent Adventure Agoraphobe haul was two Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipsticks from the Kate Moss line. Recently I've been loving the bold lip, but fancied something a little different than the rocking reds I usually wear, so I decided to pick some of the more 'unnatural' shades and give them a try.

Avon Smooth Minerals Eyeshadows

Loose eyeshadows can be pretty hit-and-miss. You can get great pigmentation but sacrifice staying power, or amazing longevity at the cost of bold, vivid colouring. Today I'm going to be doing a review of Avon's Smooth Minerals Eyeshadows, which manage to straddle that line and give great colour payoff.

NYX Round Lipsticks: Reds

As you may know, NYX Cosmetics recently landed in Australia, filling shelves in Target stores across the nation. Huzzah! I managed to get my hands on three gorgeous NYX Round Lipsticks in various shades of red, and could not wait to try them out!

Flashback: Mascara in the 20th Century

In 1915, a 19 year old Tom Lyle Williams noticed his sister, Mabel, applying a (rather scary sounding) mix of Vaseline and coal dust to her eyelashes. Using his trusty chemistry set, he produced a formula that would go on to be one of the best selling beauty products of the early 20th century: Maybelline Cake Mascara.

Adventures At Kmart

Today I went to Kmart! Now that might not sound very exciting at all, but to me it is huge. I have been agoraphobic for quite a few years, and any trip outside is a big deal for me. This has been the first time I've left my street since...probably August. It was scary, but so so rewarding.

I buy most of my makeup online, and as such, I don't really get to try stuff out at all until it shows up at my door. So it was wonderful today browsing the aisles, swatching my little heart out. I got to swatch Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, some Revlon lipsticks that caught my eye (well hello there Va Va Violet, you are just so pretty!) and a handful of Covergirl and Maybelline lipsticks and shadows.

Here is how my hand looked after 10 minutes in the cosmetics aisle:

Today I had the chance to try out some Sephora Instant Radiance Foundation.

I managed to get my hands on a groovy little sample card, with a little sachet of Light (Cream) and Medium (Apricot Beige) to try out.

Makeup Resolutions for 2014

A New Year is upon us, and it's time to look forwards and make some resolutions for the year ahead. Here are my Makeup Resolutions for 2014:

1) Don't be so afraid of 'breaking in' new products, especially eye palettes.
Most of the time, when I get a new product, I won't use it for quite a while. I don't want to smudge the top of the lipstick, I don't want to put a dent into the smooth, pristine surface of the shadows. But I buy makeup to be used, not to be admired in it's little container. So I need to promise to use my products, get the most out of them, and not be afraid to 'ruin' them.
